Hermanus, Penguins and Cape Agulhas: Day 1

Begin your adventurous 6 Days Garden route and Addo Safari with a transfer from Cape town to Hermanus. Enjoy this scenic seaside town, popular for mind-blowing whale watching experiences, especially the southern right whales. Follow the cliff path for breathtaking views and whale spotting opportunities.

Follow the coastal road to Betty’s Bay, to view a unique colony of African Penguins at the Stony point Nature Reserve. Later on, proceed to the southern-most tip of Africa: Cape Agulhas, a scenic point where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. At this point, you’ll view the Red and white lighthouse, “The Tip of Africa” sign as well as shipwreck sites.

Ostrich Capital – Oudtshoorn: Day 2

Travel to Oudtshoorn, via the scenic ROUTE 62 that winds through the Klein Karoo to the Garden Route. Take a tour of an ostrich farm and experience unique activities like Ostrich neck massages. Enjoy scenic views of the Swartberg and Outeniqua mountains bordering this town. Visit the Cango caves and later enjoy a local meal at a restaurant.

Visit the CP Nel Museum to learn about its historical significance. Spend the late afternoon at a vineyard and enjoy a wine-tasting experience of local flavours.

Sedgefield: Day 3

After breakfast, head to Outeniqua Mountain Pass and explore the Wilderness National Park by canoe. Paddle up the Touw River through the indigenous forest with an abundance of bird life. After about 40 minutes, leave the canoes for a 2 km hike along a boardwalk to a waterfall with rock pools. Visit the Wild Oats Farmers’ Market and have lunch. Spend your afternoon at the beach relaxing and enjoying water sports like kayaking and surfing.

Knysna and Tsitsikamma : Day 4

Head to the famous town of Knysna via the lavish Lake District of the Garden Route. Visit the Knysna Heads Viewpoint for sweeping views over the Knysna River and the Indian Ocean. Next, stop at Bloukrans Bridge to view the world’s highest bungee jump bridge. Midday will be spent in Tsitsikamma National Park, with its unique combination of indigenous forests and Indian Ocean coastline. The park has a wide choice of activities including hiking, crossing a suspension bridge, and swimming. In the afternoon, leave the Garden Route for Addo National Park.

 

Addo Elephant National Park: Day 5

Spend the morning exploring Addo Elephant National Park with a game drive. The reserve is home to the Big Five animals that include lions, leopards, rhinos, buffaloes and over 600 elephants. Other species include warthogs, cheetah, red hartebeest, elands, kudus, zebras, wild dogs and various bird species. After your wildlife experience, you’ll drive back to the Garden Route where you’ll stay overnight at Sedgefield.

Mossel Bay experience and Departure: Day 6

Begin your last day of adventure with a hearty breakfast and proceed to Mossel bay for a beach experience. Hike to the Cape St. Blaize Lighthouse and learn more about its rich history. Visit the Bartolomeu Dias Museum Complex a significant place to commemorate European exploration around the tip of Africa from the 15th century.
